Off The Clock 2014: Exhibit Time Lapse

April 30, 2014 Linda Hardwick

Michael e. Stern, a Pasadena, CA based commercial and time lapse photographer was commissioned by The LA chapter of APA to shoot a time lapse piece during their annual "Off The Clock" personal photo exhibition.

"I did this for the love of the art  form, to  enhance my directing acumen and for the opportunity to get my work seen by a larger audience. With over 25 hours of labor and 11,000+ images to work from, I didn't do this for the money. It is true love.

"I'm committed to the idea of helping people and organizations communicate to their audience. Lately, time lapse has been the hot area of growth in our industry and I've been fortunate enough to have gotten on the train in 2011, but really I'm just very satisfied that I've been able to make a living as a professional photographer for over 30 years and it shows no signs of letting up. APA has been a huge help to me over the years with educational programs, marketing help and for the networking opportunities."

More of Micahel's work can be seen at: http://www.buildabetterphotograph.com.

Lytroites, Unite

April 25, 2014 Linda Hardwick

Recently I've been working with Lytro on the launch of their new camera, the Illum.  It takes pictures in a new way, combining three dimensional elements into a 2-d "living" photo. Here is one of the first videos I worked on to come out about the artists we shot with.

Creatives love to see photographers’ personal work because it reveals their true photographic style without anyone else’s influence or input.  Off The Clock is an exhibit in Los Angeles of personal images created by photographers - and this Saturday the 26th, you can come to the reception. Brought to you by APA LA.

Dan Winters: Last Launch

February 28, 2014 Linda Hardwick
1 dan-winters-last-launch.jpg

Dan Winters grew up in the golden-age of space travel, watching the live launch of Apollo 11 with his family at home on their television set. This experience shaped him, as well as an entire generation – capturing our collective imagination as to what it means to dream a dream so big, and to dedicate ourselves to a vision so grandiose that it dazzles in its risk and the wonder of believing in it.

Honda: Inner Beauty

February 28, 2014 Linda Hardwick

When an automaker like Honda launches a new vehicle whose strongest selling point is how roomy it is, advertisers need to find a way to bring TV viewers inside, while still maintaining their interest. This spot is at once quirky and playful - and Garrison Keillor brings his warm, folksy charm to bear once again as the voice of Honda Europe.

Take ten minutes out of your life to watch this this TED Talk by Louie Schwartzberg, an award-winning cinematographer, and I guarantee that you will feel grateful afterwards.  I love this talk because Schwartzberg hits the nail on the head, touching on why I think beauty is an important part of our lives.

“So God Made A Farmer” is an iconic Paul Harvey speech, given in 1978 at a Future Farmers of America convention. It is this speech which forms the backbone of the photographic poem that guides viewers through this surprisingly understated Super Bowl spot.

Jill Greenberg: Horse

January 30, 2014 Linda Hardwick

Jill Greenberg photographs horses as if they are lovely fashion models, giving her portraits and studies of their form a fresh, dynamic edge. The beautiful detail in which she has chosen to render them – using a camera better suited to studio portraiture than a moving animal – is mesmerizing.

The Gap. Inspiration for Those Aspiring.

January 29, 2014 Linda Hardwick

I saw this piece through Clint Hudspeth. It is a beautiful video by David Shiyang Lius featuring the voice of Ira Glass. If you're a creative person in any capacity, this video is touching and motivating, not to mention very clever - all at the same time.

Ben Roberts: Amazon Unpacked

January 24, 2014 Linda Hardwick

Ben Roberts writes on his website, "I was sent on assignment by the Financial Times Weekend Magazine to photograph people and places in and around Rugeley (UK). ...The arrival of Amazon to occupy a huge warehouse in the town was originally seen as being a boost to the local economy, but has it turned out that way? "

Nicholas Maggio: The Spark of Life

January 17, 2014 Linda Hardwick

Nicholas Maggio has that ever-elusive quality that can be difficult to find in a commercial photographer - - he finds a way to depict in his images what he personally finds interesting about a situation - whether it's a model with an unusual feature (or two)  - or a weathered texture in the background, or an odd prop that managed to effortlessly find it's way "just so" in frame.
